Segregation of waste at source
Segregation of waste at the source is key for improved collection efficiency, processing of waste, and resource recovery. Half the battle is won when segregation of waste is done at the source. Quality of segregation will further improve the efficiency of waste management. This citizen-centric civic action will reduce management problems and the cost burden on cities.
With rapidly changing urban landscapes, ecosystems, population migrations, and ever-increasing households and establishments, it is essential that behavior change is reinforced from time to time among citizens while simultaneously inculcating them among the newly notified ULBs.
Celebrating eight years of accomplishments of SBM-Urban, the Hon’ble President of India Droupadi Murmu, on 1st Oct 2022, urged the citizens of India to join in the ‘Segregation at Source’ campaign beginning from 2nd Oct which focuses on strengthening the practice of segregation of waste.
Objective
The objective of the campaign is to reinforce correct waste segregation practices among the different sections of society and improve the quality of segregated waste collection and processing.
