Untreated sewage is one of the biggest sources of water resource pollution in India and the lack of sanitation also increases health costs. In order to curtail these high scale issues of untreated sewage and increasing health costs, the government came up with a Swachhata Mission.
Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) was launched on 2nd October 2014, for a period of 5 years, in order to make the all Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) 100% Open Defecation Free and help them achieve 100% Solid Waste Management. It provides comprehensive directions to the Local bodies and State government, to fast track their journey towards becoming the 'Swachh Cities.'
